What are the sources of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays? We'll completely sidestep one of the outstanding questions of high energy astrophysics and instead focus on how ultrahigh energy particles can cross enormous stretches of space and the dramatic results when they fall short. Also, how can we create detectors to identify particles capable of traveling billions of light-years unimpeded?
